We're going retro here with
the Version 3 layout for the 3rd birthday since it was this way one year
ago.
It's been quite a year. How
should we start? Let's go with Version 4
9 days into Smrpg Legacy's
3rd year, Version 4 was released with an icy chill. It was something I'd
been trying to accomplish for months - making a site layout that had an ice
theme. We did better - not only did we get the ice theme, we managed to get
the site coded in PHP by Masamune of
www.gamehiker.com. This made everything so much
simpler and easier - adding things were quick and easy
Version 4 saw 2 major things:
The site reached 2,000,000 pages views and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
was released. It was great for Mario RPG fans, the site was peaking and a
new game just came out. Unfortunately, we were hacked and Version 4 never
got the attention it deserved
A few weeks later, the site
was restored to it's former self. About a half month later, Version 5 was
released. A deep blue, a lot of people liked the design better than Version
4. The MP3's were re-added after they were taken down in Version 4. We also
set a new mark - 3,000,000 page views.
May 13, 2006. That day came
and the site changed once again to celebrate 10 years of Super Mario RPG.
This new layout was smooth, simple, unique, and by far the best one that the
site has seen so far. 20+ new pages were added from the start and every
single page, other than info, was redone to be better. No one knew about
this version either, it was a complete secret.
That's a basic recap of how
the site went. But there are some things I've missed - we've had so much
happen.
Let's look at the Smrpg
Remake Campaign. We tried the first ever letter campaign - we tried to get
people to write letters and then I would personally send them out to Square-Enix.
We were shooting for 100, but we didn't reach it, so we didn't send them.
The Nintendo Wii was
announced to have downloadable games, and speculation is that Super Mario
RPG will be remade on there, which would kill the 4 years of work we've put
it.
The petition crossed 20,000
signatures as well.
The forums reached 1000
members and 65,000 posts. The numbers are still a bit low for the site's
popularity. Either way, they're still great numbers.
Sotss revived itself....kind
of. They update every few months, but at least it's another Mario RPG site
still active
Speaking of Mario RPG sites,
we've had trouble with a few. A lot of them plagiarized and stole content,
and that never leads to good things. None of them are around anymore
What else...I'm pressing for
mentions. Oh yeah, Super Paper Mario was announced. We were one of the first
to break the news...I knew about it when only IGN and Gamespot had coverage
up...but our host caused problems and I couldn't update with it. Either way,
the upcoming game looks great!
How about Super Smash Bros.
Brawl? While it's not a Mario RPG, we did something with the announcement of
this game. We started a Geno / Mallow in Super Smash Bros. Brawl campaign.
We don't know if it worked or not, but we did what we could, and hopefully
they'll make an appearance
How did I forget this? The
Give-Away Contest! We held our first ever Mario RPG Give-Away with the Mario
RPG games as prizes. We got a lot of submissions, but too many of them were
either stolen or faked, and we had to cancel the contest because of it.
We also played our annual
April Fools Joke. We announced Paper Mario 3: Revenge of Shadows. None of it
was true, but I figured another PM game was coming at E3, and went with it
anyways. We fooled some, others got it, but it was all in good fun.
There's been so much more,
but there's only so much I can go on and on about. This year's had great
times and terrible times, but we've managed to get through it all and we're
still going. Happy birthday Smrpg Legacy!
Like last time, a wallpaper
to celebrate!
