Review Story: This game has an awesome story. Like it’s prequel, Super Mario RPG, something dealing with star is the problem. This time it is star spirits, not star pieces. Plus, you also have to save Princess Peach. There are also some more main parts to the story, like the Star Rod. The Star Rod was stolen and that is how the star spirits were imprisoned. The Star Rod also has the power to grant wishes to whoever possesses it. The story in this game is great, and is unlike most other Mario game stories. Story Score: 10/10
Game Play: Paper Mario has some unique game play. Mario and some other companion can be used on the map and in battle. What’s cool is that both on the map and battle screens are that each character has different abilities. On the map certain abilities of each character are needed fore certain parts. However, the game play isn’t the most fun. After a while, it can actually get boring. The battle system isn’t the greatest either – it is actually bad. But the game play overall is good, ‘cause of the mini games. Game Play Score: 7/10
Graphics: This game has great graphics. Most people will say they are really bad, but most miss the point. They characters and such are supposed to be paper. With that in mind, they are great for their theme. Plus, the backgrounds and levels are still in 3-d, and they look amazingly good. The colors are really nice too, and the game looks really good overall. There aren’t many glitches and there is no fuzziness or blurriness in any of the graphics. Although there only paper, there is nothing wrong with them. Graphics Score: 10/10
Music and Sounds: Paper Mario has some great music and sounds. It has a huge variety of music, totaling to about 78 songs. All of them are really good, and you can listen to all of the songs over and over again without them getting tiring. All of the songs have been composed really well, and they fit their levels perfectly, as do the sounds to actions. The sounds do match the actions perfectly – in fact, there are actually badges that will change the sound of your attacks. Both music and sounds are incredibly well done in this game. Music and Sounds Score: 10/10
Replay Value: This game only has decent replay value. It is a longer game, and re-beating it isn’t the most fun with that in mind. There aren’t many alternate ways to beat the game, nor are there many secrets to find. Although, you can always try to beat the game using a different team. You have 8 party members that can alternate and be used differently to replay the game through different angles of battle. Other than that, there aren’t many things else you can do differently. Since the game play isn’t the most fun, replaying it isn’t too much fun either. Replay Value Score: 6/10
Bottom Line: This was a great game, but could have been improved. The story was great, and so were the graphics. However, game play wasn’t too much fun. The music picks up for it with a killer 78 song soundtrack, but replay value brings down the game. Despite that, I recommend this game strongly
Overall Score: 91/100, not the greatest of Mario’s adventures. |
