Under Construction |
|
|
|
The Prelude |
|
- Time for Mario's fourth RPG
adventure, so let's get right to it. The
game starts off with Mario and Luigi in
there house. Of course, we see our good
old friend Parakarry from the original
Paper Mario. Surprise! It starts off
pretty similar to Paper Mario with a
letter from Peach. However....things
seem different. This isn't a very common
letter for Peach to send to Mario. |
|
|
|
- Luigi will read the letter to you. It
talks about how Peach found a "treasure
map" that she bought from a merchant.
She then asks for Mario's help to find
the map, which is enclosed in the
letter. Then Luigi will give Mario the
map and a Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year
Door title screen will come up. Press A
to get rid of it, and then the chapter
screen will come up |
|
|
|
Prologue: A Rogue's Welcome |
|
- After the chapter title screen, it
will turn black with someone asking
Mario to wake up. Now you can see the
town in view from your boat. After you
view it, you'll then actually arrive in
it - and of course, you can now control
Mario. Head left and then save. Then go
upwards towards the stairs you can see
in the background. Mario will suddenly
stopped and you will see a goomba
talking to a guy with a cape. You'll
learn more about him later. |
|
|
|
- Anyways, he'll talk about how the
girl goomba has been asking about the
'Crystal Stars'. The girl goomba denies
it and the guy in the cape and his 2
henchman will want to take her with
them. After the dialogue is over, you
can move again. Walk up the the goomba
and she'll start talking to you, asking
for help. You'll now be in your first
battle, which of course won't be hard.
Just in case, she'll tell you to use
your hammer and jump ability. |
|
|
|
Area Boss - Lord Crump |
 |
- For this battle, I recommend
using both your hammer and jump
at least once to see how they
both feel. When you select them,
a message at the bottom will
explain how to time them
briefly. Try to get it as close
as you can for right now. Lay an
all out attack on this guy and
he'll be no problem. It'll take
3 correctly timed hits to know
him down, but a few more if not
timed right. After he is done,
the goomba girl will explain
star points, and how they are
used for leveling up. You'll get
9 from this battle |
|
|
|
|
- After the battle, hundreds of his
henchman will surround you. They'll all
jump on you, but this isn't a problem.
The goomba girl will lead you out of the
pile. Head up the stairs to enter a
different part of Rogueport - all the
henchman will stop trying to tackle the
person in the middle of the pile. |
|
|
|
- You are now in the Main Square.
The goomba girl will tell you how you
saved her, and will give you a kiss. She
now tells you that her name is
Goombella, a student at the
University of Goom. She'll ask who you
are, and Mario will tell her that it's
him. She'll criticize the town, but
mentions something of a legendary
treasure. She finds out that
Mario is looking for a legendary
treasure too, and Mario will show her
Peach's map. |
|
|
|
- Now, a fancy looking Toad will come.
If you've played Super Mario Sunshine,
you know that this is Toadsworth,
a Toad watching over the princess.
You'll talk to him about Peach's map.
And then it gets a bit edgy, because
neither of them know exactly where the
princess is. He'll say that she vanished
and leaves the responsibility of finding
her to you. He'll also talk about the
inn and Heart Points.
|
|
|
|
- Goombella will now ask about the
princess, now knowing she is Peach of
the Mushroom Kingdom. She'll throw out
some ideas as to her whereabouts, and
then comes up with an idea. You're gonna
go see her college professor to help
with this problem. After she is done
talking, she joins your party. |
|
|
|
Goombella |
 |
- Now it's time to learn all
about Goombella and her value to
the party. Press X to get
information about nearby people,
places, and objects. Goombella
can give you hints when she
answers so ask her for
information often! And of
course, Goombella can be helpful
in battle, too. She jumps in the
air and attacks enemies with a
nasty Headbonk. She can also
look up enemy HP and weaknesses
with her Tattle ability. |
|
|
|
|
- Now she says that you guys will need
to find her professor. Except...she
doesn't know where he is either. She'll
show you a picture of Professor
Frankly and you can now move again.
Head upwards to a save point and save
your game. Now that you've saved your
game, head off to the right until you
reach the next area. |
|
|
|
- As you enter this part of the town, a
bandit rushes you and takes half of your
coins. Time to go and get them back. Go
back near the inn and the save point -
except this time you need to go up into
the back alley. Once in the back alley,
go to the left and through the door near
there. Talk to the bandit and he'll give
you back your 50 coins. Then head back
to the eastern part of town
(where he stole the coins) |
|
|
|
- Now we are where we need to be. Head
a little ways to the right, and you'll
notice a few things - a house with a
shine sprite plaque and a guard. Next to
the shine sprite house is a another
house, which you need to go into. |
|
|
|
- Now we are at Professor Frankly's
house. He'll try to guess who Goombella
is because he can't remember. He'll
finally get the name "Goombella" right
and then she will tell him that he is
right. Frankly will do the same thing
with Mario. |
|
|
|
- After your done with him guessing
names, Goombella will mention the
legendary treasure. Frankly will mention
how the treasure is what he studies, and
then Goombella will talk about how
architects and whatever have to look for
it. Then Frankly talks about all the
mysteries surrounding the treasure and
all of the theories. Then comes up the "Crystal
Stars" and how one must have
them to obtain the treasure.
After that Frankly talks about taking
the crystal stars to "The
Thousand-Year Door". |
|
|
|
- Now Goombella speaks of a "Magical
Map" that needs to be held
up at TTYD (The Thousand-Year Door). She
also says that the map will lead to the
crystal stars as well. |
|
|
|
- Back to Frankly. He mentions that the
critical piece of the so-called puzzle
is the magical map. Well, of course, it
turns out that the map Peach sent is the
map that Frankly and Goombella spoke of.
Frankly will "go insane" and will look
at it, and then proclaim it as the real
one. |
|
|
|
- Then Frankly talks about how they
will now be able to find the crystal
stars and that is time to take the map
to TTYD. Now, being able to control
Mario, walk out of his house - you'll
notice the professor following you.
He'll then lead you downwards to a
fence, which he will open up. Go to him
near the pipe, and now you will get to
learn all about battles. Make sure you
select "Of Course", because there are a
lot more features in this game than
there were in the other. |
|
|
|
- Now your 'fighting' your own partner,
trying to learn the techniques. He
starts with the jump command, and then
teaches about defensive timing. Next is
the hammer, followed up by the
Super Guard. This technique will
help a lot in the future, so learn it
well this time. If you got all that,
exit the battle, otherwise try again
until your up to par. |
|
|
|
- And now that battling is taken care
of, Frankly will tell you how to go down
a pipe. Go down the one right next to
you to proceed. |
|
|
|
Rogueport Sewers |
|
- Mario and the party are now in
Rogueport Sewers -
underneath the town. First thing to do
is use the save block near the
beginning. From here, head right going
down the stairs and a group of goombas
will be wondering who the so called
'hottie' is. After they are done
talking, you will be in a battle with
them. |
|
|
|
- Frankly will help you through this
battle, so pay attention to what he
says. He'll explain about changing turn
orders by pressing the Y button. After
you take care of them, you'll receive a
minor amount of star points. |
|
|
|
- After the battle with the goomba
trio, Frankly will talk about
First Strikes. That will be
extremely useful in the future, so know
what he is talking about. Anyways, when
he finishes talking, head up the stairs
to the right. Then you'll see a pad with
a triangular shape - head upwards from
it behind the wall. Then jump on the
moving platform and head left, going
down the pipe at the end. |
|
|
|
- Now head all the way to the right
until you can go no further, and then
doe the same thing by going down the
stair case to the left. If you want to,
practice first strikes and battling in
general. At the bottom of the stairs,
there is a yellow ? box. Hit it with
your hammer to get a mushroom, in which
a box will pop up explaining items.
After that's done, head left until you
see 2 big yellow boxes - get the other ?
block along the way, Bust the yellow
blocks with your hammer, and go down the
pipe that they were covering up. |
|
|
|
- The first thing you might notice in
the room is the HUGE yellow block to the
left - you can't break it yet. Head
downwards till you reach the back wall.
Rub up against it and start jumping
while moving right - you will uncover a
Badge. Don't worry about
the little gray bug thing that goes in a
hole. Now go to start > badges, and
press A on the bade to equip it. This
one will help you for right now, though
it won't help too much. |
|
|
|
- Now head right until you see a blue !
switch - hit it with your hammer (or
jump on it) to uncover a stair case.
Climb the stairs and you'll see another
triangle pad. Stand just before it, and
fall down going towards the back wall
(upwards). You'll get a "Black" key and
will need to re-climb the stair case.
Head through the doorway near the top of
it, which is away from the triangle pad. |
|
|
|
- Go up to the chest in this room and
press A to examine it - it will start
talking. It'll say Mario is the hero of
a legend, and is the only one who could
hear him. The box says that it's a
person locked up, and Frankly will say
not to mention the crystal stars, which
of course, he just did. The
conversations wraps up with him asking
you to look for a key, which you know
already have - the Black Key.
Press A on the box again and use the key
on it. |
|
|
|
- The spirit in the box will say he is
gonna cast a curse on you, which really
isn't a curse at all considering this
will help you. The curse will transform
you into a paper Airplane.
He'll then explain about standing on
those pads with triangles -
Airplane Panels. Use Y on the
panel to transform into the plane, and
then he'll explain about using the
control stick to fly yourself. When he
asks you if this curse is the worst
thing, answer yes to save you some of
the hassle. Then he'll speak about using
the B button to transform back into your
regular form. |
|
|
|
- Now that your done with this, go back
outside and to the left and onto the
panel. Use Y and fly yourself to the
left and onto the block. This may take a
few tries if your struggling a little
with it. Once you've reached it, go
through the door too the left. |
|
|
|
- This room is the one where TTYD lies.
Frankly will tell you to move closer,
which you need to do by going on to the
pedestal. Now that your on it, some blue
glow will form a design, and Goombella
will start asking what is happening.
Now the map will start to glow and will
float aloft Mario's head. A picture of
the nap will appear, and then a castle
with a star appears on it. Then the
screen will 'break' and the location of
the crystal star will be recorded on
your map. You will also learn a
Special Move called Sweet Treat. |
|
|
|
- Goombella wand Frankly will start
talking about the map and stuff again.
Frankly will start talking about going
back to his place, which you will then
be there after he is done. |
|
|
|
- Now Frankly will start explaining
what happened. He'll tell you it is
better to show you how to use the move
instead of telling you. Accept the idea
of trying it out and then there will be
a battle with him explaining it. |
|
|
|
- After you use the special move,
Frankly will explain about the
Audience and how they fill your
star gauge. After that, he will explain
about the Icons in the top
right corner of the battle screen. After
that you will learn about the
Appeal command. Now Frankly
explains about how audience members can
throw things at you and how to stop it.
Then the battle will end. |
|
|
|
- Back inside, Frankly will tell you
how the map is like a radar and shows
the location of the crystal star. He'll
say that the map shows that the crystal
star is in Petal Meadows
- a area east of Rogueport. Frankly will
also mention how there is a pipe in the
sewers leading to Petal Meadows and
follow it up asking where to got the map
- Mario will explain how Princess Peach
gave him that map. He'll explain about
how Peach came to see him and ask about
the treasure and how he explained the
crystal stars and Petal Meadows. Then
Goombella and Frankly talk about the
groups asking about the crystal stars
and then you will be on your way to
Petal Meadows. |
|
|
|
- As you walk outside, Frankly will
stop you and give you a badge and will
explain it if you choose the option that
will let him. Then he talks about
Flower Points after you are done
with the tutorial. Then he leaves. |
|
|
|
- Head back to the main square to save
and then back to the sewers. From here,
head to the right until you cross an
airplane panel. Transform and fly across
to the right and then head into the
doorway. Now, there a strange thing
sticking out of the water. Smack it with
your hammer and then a giant Blooper
will emerge. |
|
|
|
- Time for another battle. First, start
by attacking the 2 tentacles - it
doesn't matter which order. Each has 3
hit points, so it'll take an attack from
each to kill 1. After both are taken
care of, go for an all out attack. Use
the "Power Smash" that Frankly gave you,
and attack regular with Goombella. He'll
get up, but you can still attack him. A
few hits later, he'll die and you'll
receive 20 star points. |
|
|
|
- After the battle, he'll dive back
into the water and 2 platforms will
emerge to the surface. Jump from one to
another and go down the pipe to start
chapter 1. |
|
|
|
Chapter 1: Castle and Dragon |
|
- The chapter starts out with an
overview of Petal Meadows. First off,
use the save point to the left. Then
head right and you'll hear a dragon roar
or something of the sort. Mario will now
look up to see a dragon flying into a
castle. After that little cut-scene,
head right again and hit the ? block.
Then go to the next area. |
|
|
|
- Now head right and fight the goombas
along the way for experience - there is
a ton of it to go around. Also, along
the way there is a red box - it contains
a badge. You can choose to equip it if
you want to, but you don't necessarily
have to. After you have defeated all the
goombas and got the boxes, head to the
right into the next area. |
|
|
|
- Just like the last area, head right
and fight the goombas on your way. Now
you will come across a dead end - if you
look in the background there is a
switch. There's 2 dark green bushes near
there - press A to examine them to
reveal a hidden pipe. Go down the pipe
to get to the background - hit the
switch and a bridge will appear. Then,
head back to the foreground (the regular
area) and cross the bridge. On your way
right, examine the bushes and get the
boxes - but ultimately you want to go
through the arch to get to a town... |
|
|
|
Petalburg |
|
- When you first enter, a koopa will
walk up to you. He'll explain that this
town is Petalburg. He'll
talk about a dragon named Hooktail,
and how people stopped visiting. Then
Goombella will talk about how it was
what they saw earlier. Then she'll ask
about the crystal star. He'll tell you
that he has never heard of it, but that
you should speak to the mayor about it.
He'll say that the mayor lives in the
pink house up ahead. Head right and use
the save point - then go even more to
the right into the next area. |
|
|
|
- The first house you see is the pink
house. Head up the land like stairs and
into it. Then talk to the mayor - he'll
initially think your thieves. Then Mario
will explain that he isn't a thief and
that he and Goombella are looking for
the crystal stars. He'll say that
hooktail has the star and then explain a
little more about him. When he asks you
if you are going to get the star, answer
yes. You can choose your answer when he
asks you about the reward. Then he'll
start calling you 'Murphy' and then you
can answer whatever you would like to
the next question. After that, he'll say
that you need to find the secret pipe
near the village - and that you will
need the Stone Keys to get
it. He'll mention that they are in the
Shhwonk Fortress. Then
he'll bid you luck and send you on your
way. |
|
|
|
- Now, head outside the house and head
on right - you'll receive an email...at
least, I did. After it is done
explaining it, head right and talk to
the koopa near the gate. He'll say that
the fortress is ahead, and then he'll
let you pass since you have the mayor's
permission. He'll then open the gate and
then someone will tell you to hold on. |
|
|
|
- Now you see a koopa that is different
than the rest. He'll say that his name
is Koops. He will talk
about him hearing that your going to
Hooktail's Castle. Koops will then
stammer a bit and just tell you to go
and ignore him. Then he will run away -
and your free to head right through the
gate. |
|
|
|
- Now you're in another part of Petal
Meadows. A bush nearby has a Star Piece,
so examine some of them. On your way,
fight the goombas for even more
experience - also fight the koopas.
Also, make sure to get the ? blocks. At
the end, there is a stone structure with
a doorway - head through it. |
|
|
|
- Now your in a stone building. You see
2 stone enemies on pedestals - examine 1
with the A button to enter battle. This
battle is just a bit different - your
normal hammer attacks do nothing.
Remember that POW block you got from the
? block earlier? Make sure you use it
and they'll die immediately. After the 2
stone enemies, the bars covering the
doors go away. Head through the opening
to go to yet another part of Petal
Meadows. |
|
|
|
- Surprise, surprise! We're heading
right again. Like all the other times,
head right and fight the enemies as you
see them. Keep going to the right until
you reach another stone doorway - this
time it's red. Before you go in, examine
the bushes near by - there's another POW
block. Then go in the building. |
|
|
|
- More awkwardly looking stone guys.
Press A to shake the pillars like the
last time, and you will be in another
battle. Just like the last time, use a
POW block. Then the bars will not be
covering the doors and you can progress
onward. |
|
|
|
- And even more surprises. Another area
of Petal Meadows almost the same as the
others. Head right and fight all the
enemies.....again. The experience will
help later. Along the way there is an
Inn Coupon - it's slightly covered up by
a rock. At the top of this area, there
is a Heal Block. Hit it
and then there will be a brief
explanation of what they are and how
they are used. Then head through the
stone doorway. |
|
|
|
- The first thing to do in this room is
saving. After that head right and you
will see a Thwomp statue. This room
right here is the Shhwonk Fortress. Then
go up to the statues and press A to
examine it. |
|
|
|
- The statue isn't really a statue -
it's an actual Thwomp. He'll now talk to
you and call you contestants. Now the
Thwomp will talk about the Stone Keys
and how you have to compete against him
to get them. He says if you win, he'll
let you through to them - if you lose
you will suffer a terrible fate. Make
sure you press "I'll take you on" when
he asks you. |
|
|
|
- Now a quiz game starts. You need to
correctly answer 5 questions to go on -
but you can't get 3 of them wrong. Here
are the questions and answers |
|
|
|
Question 1: What's hidden
in this place? |
|
Answer: Stone Keys |
|
|
|
Question 2: What do one
Mr. softener and one Fire flower
cost at the shop in Petalburg? |
|
Answer:16 Coins |
|
|
|
Question 3: What is the
name of the mayor of Petalburg? |
|
Answer: Kroop |
|
|
|
Question 4: Where is the
Crystal Star? |
|
Answer: Hooktail Castle |
|
|
|
Question 5: How can one
get from Petal Meadows to
Rogueport? |
|
Answer: Go Through a Pipe |
|
|
|
|
- Now that you have won the quiz, he
now has to let you through. The Thwomp
now moves and a pipe appears. Save it
first and then go down the pipe. Now
your in some more sewers. Head right and
hit the red ? block to get the
Multibounce badge. Then go to the right
through the doorway into the next area. |
|
|
